Dowsing for detrimental energy fields around & in your home is not difficult at all.
I use two L ROD's. I made them from coat hangers. Using cutters, cut one end of the bottom of a heavy wire coat hanger and about four inches down at the other end so that you have an L shape. Of course you need to straighten the four inch cut to be a 90 degree perfect L.
As seen in the photo to the right, hold the L RODS even and forward in your hands. Allow them to swing freely. Practice walking forward with them pointing directly forward.
While walking forward, I ask my subconscious mind to turn the wires toward each other for a YES and away form each other for a NO.
I have read that other Dowers do it just the opposite, toward each other is a NO and away is a YES. It does not matter, how you train yourself is what matters.

As with all things in life, training your subconscious to do this may take a little time. Try and remember your first time riding a bicycle. It took a few attempts and a few falls to gain your balance and skill.
When you are able to mentally command a YES and No, then you are ready to search for Harmful Energy Fields. I found it easier to practice this while walking, practicing while standing still seemed harder for me. This may not be the case with you, we are all different.
Walk around your home and ask to detect any harmful energy fields. Expect the L RODS to give you a YES when you enter a harmful Energy field.
